HCN Buys Examiner Newspaper Group

By: E&P Staff Houston Community Newspapers (HCN) purchased the Examiner Newspaper Group, which publishes newspapers for the Houston neighborhoods of West University, River Oaks, Bellaire, and Memorial.

Terms of the transaction, reported in the Houston Business Journal, were not disclosed.

George Boehme, publisher of the Examiner Group, will remain with the newspapers.

On May 10, the Examiner newspapers will covert to a broadsheet format. On the same day, the Memorial Examiner will merge with the HCN?s Memorial Sun.

HCN is owned by ASP Westward, a company that publishes 65 papers in Texas and Colorado.
