By: (AP) Patrick McCrady, who co-wrote the best-selling book
Pritikin Program for Diet and Exercise with Nathan Pritikin in 1979, died Dec. 12. He was 71.
The book advocated high-carbohydrate, lowfat foods; fruits and vegetables; and whole grains, breads and pasta.
McCrady did not follow his well-known book's advice, daughter Vanessa McGrady told the
Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
McGrady wrote about health for the Associated Press and United Press International, served a stint as the Moscow bureau chief for
Newsweek and worked at the
Chicago Sun-Times.
He founded CANHELP, a cancer treatment resource service that helps cancer patients root through the complex maze of medical research and therapies both within and outside the boundaries of conventional medicine.
Survivors include a daughter, two sons and two brothers.
