Hearst Connecticut Media Group on Wednesday finalized a deal to acquire the Republican-American newspaper in Waterbury (Connecticut).

HCMG’s group publisher and president, Mike DeLuca, said the deal, which includes the Citizens News, “strengthens Hearst Connecticut Media Group’s commitment to providing comprehensive, high-quality journalism across the state.”

“Waterbury and the surrounding communities have long relied on the Rep-Am for trusted local news, and we intend to build on that legacy by investing in its future,” DeLuca said in a statement.

The Republican-American, which has been owned by the Pape family since 1901, joins HCMG’s network of more than 30 local newspapers and websites. The print edition, which publishes seven days a week, will be paired with a new online experience at CTInsider.com/Rep-Am.
