Hearst Names Aldam Publisher at 'Albany (N.Y.) Times Union'

By: (AP) The Hearst Corporation on Friday named Mark Aldam publisher of the Albany Times Union, succeeding David White, who will become chairman of the newspaper.

Aldam, 42, is currently senior vice president/chief operating officer of The Hartford Courant, owned by the Tribune Company.

He joined The Hartford Courant in 1994 as advertising director and held positions overseeing sales, advertising and marketing at the paper. For almost four years, he was senior vice president/general manager before taking his current position in 2005.

Before going to Hartford, he served as chief financial officer/assistant treasurer of Eagle Publishing Company in Pittsfield, Mass.

White, 63, will be chairman of the paper until he retires at the end of the year. He has been with the Times Union for nearly 18 years.
Both positions are effective March 1.

The announcement was made jointly by Victor Ganzi, president and CEO of The Hearst Corporation and George Irish, president of Hearst Newspapers.

Hearst publishes such daily newspapers as the Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News, San Francisco Chronicle and Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Hartford had a weekday circulation of 191,500 in 2005, the Times Union 100,628.
