By: E&P Staff Mark Tatulli's "Heart of the City" comic will rerun a widely praised storyline -- first published from Nov. 5-17, 2002 -- to commemorate the anniversary of Kristallnacht, according to Universal Press Syndicate.
Kristallnacht, or "the night of broken glass," refers to the events of Nov. 9-10, 1938, when Nazis and civilians destroyed numerous Jewish villages, homes, businesses, and synagogues. Many Jews were beaten to death, and 30,000 were shipped to concentration camps.
In the sequence, Heart and her friend Dean seek older people to interview for a school project, and meet Leo Nussbaum, who tells them the story of his youth in 1938 Austria and his harrowing escape from Nazi oppression.
Tatulli, who also does the "Lio" comic for Universal, has added revised and updated dialogue to the 2002 "Heart" strips.
