Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung, Heidelberg, Germany, will use ppiTrack and a browser-based, optimized smartphone application developed by manroland subsidiary ppi Media, Hamburg.
Continuously tracking the entire planning and production line in the ppi workflow, from ad and editorial content delivery to plate production, the ppiTrack tracking solution shows at a glance where critical or acute situations are likely to occur or deadlines will be missed. Using ppiTrack's smartphone module for ppiTrack will allow monitoring of all newspaper production from anywhere, according to Michael Gindele, prepress production manager at Heidelberger Mediengestaltung HVA GmbH.
The software's drill-down menu gives an overview that can be particularly useful in the mobile application. Users can navigate by fingertip between a display of highly aggregated data and detailed information, including a preview. In the overall view, all print products are reduced to one-line bar with key information on production times. A green, gray or red icon at the front of the bar shows the overall status of all pages belonging to the print product.
Critical situations can be detected and by zooming in, and possible causes can be identified without losing time. To pinpoint and effectively deal with problems, additional details can now be displayed via the page dummy.
