By: (AP) Help-wanted advertising rose in November, indicating the U.S. labor market is returning to life, according to a report issued Monday.

The Conference Board's help-wanted advertising index, a barometer of the U.S. employment situation, rose to 39 last month from 37 in October. A year ago, the private research group's index stood at 40.

In the last three months, help-wanted advertising rose in seven of the nine U.S. regions, with the strongest increases in New England. Declines occurred in the mountain and south Atlantic regions. Despite spots of weakness, economists were encouraged by the data.

"The labor market is finally sparking to life," said Conference Board economist Ken Goldstein, adding that the help-wanted index's increase was the first since June.
