'Hogan's Alley' Salutes Syndicate Founders

Posted
By: Dave Astor Fourteen men who founded or helped found various syndicates are profiled in the current issue of Hogan's Alley magazine.

Among the deceased "tycoons who financed the funnies" are William Randolph Hearst (King Features Syndicate), E.W. Scripps (what's now United Media), and Joseph Medill Patterson (now Tribune Media Services). Living founders profiled include John McMeel (Universal Press Syndicate) and Richard Newcombe (Creators Syndicate).

The cover line for Allan Holtz's article reads: "Comics' Most Influential Non-cartoonists."

Hogan's Alley (http://www.hoganmag.com) is a publication that focuses on cartooning.
