Hollingsworth, 40, has served as the Register's general manager since 2005. She succeeds Mary Stier, who is retiring on Sept. 7.
"I'm thrilled and honored," Hollingsworth told her paper. "I've spent the last five and a half years getting to know what this newspaper means and I love it. I love Des Moines. I plan to be lively active in this community."
Before joining the Register, Hollingsworth was an ad executive with Gannett papers in Green Bay, Wis.; Olympia, Wash.; Rockford, Ill.; and Lansing, Mich.
