By: Hope Frazier, a former executive editor for the Pasadena Star-News and other newspapers, has died. She was 60.
Frazier died of colon cancer Saturday at her Ojai home, her husband, Doug Adrianson said.
As head of the San Gabriel Newspaper Group from 1992 to 1996, Frazier oversaw the Star-News, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune and the Whittier Daily News, and helped to expand and restructure the three papers.
"She was all about vision," group executive editor Steve O'Sullivan said. He hired Frazier as managing editor. "She saw the local newspapers in global terms, seeing connections between world and national events and the daily life experiences of local readers."
After leaving the newspapers, she worked as a filmmaker and artist in a studio she restored in Ojai.
Her proudest accomplishment, Adrianson said, was a multimedia presentation on the effects of mountaintop-removal coal mining on her native Appalachia, where her family lived for generations. Frazier was born in rural Kingsport, Tenn.
The show, called "Brushy: Between the Halves of My Heart," opened last spring at East Tennessee State University.
