By: J.J. McGrath It's no joke: April 1 will be the last day on the job for Richard J.V. Johnson, chairman of the
Houston Chronicle.
Johnson, who for 46 years has been with what is now the nation's No. 9 newspaper by daily circulation, will maintain consulting relationships with both the
Chronicle and its New York-based parent Hearst Corp. after his retirement, Hearst CEO and President Frank A. Bennack Jr. said in a statement Feb. 4.
Succeeding Johnson as the
Chronicle's top officer will be President and Publisher Jack Sweeney.
