By: E&P Staff The Houston Chronicle has partnered with HarvestINFO to develop an online local shopping channel for HoustonChronicle.com. It's scheduled to debut in early 2005.
Using HarvestINFO?s Marketplace Local technology, the Houston Chronicle will combining its retail display ads, online-only ads, real-estate listings, automobile listings, classified listings, special sections, and inserts into one completely searchable database of local information. Shoppers can then search by keyword or category from a selection of all ads, classified text ads, ads from the newspaper, and an optional advertiser inventory feed.

After carefully exploring all available options, we concluded that HarvestINFO?s Marketplace Local is the best online local shopping product available," Stacey Sedbrook, the Chronicle's director of online product development, said in a statement. ?Together with HarvestINFO, we look forward to creating the premier shopping channel in the Houston Major Metro Market, as well as a standard for the industry.?

The Houston Chronicle, a Hearst newspaper, is the nation?s seventh-largest daily metropolitan paper, with daily circulation totals of 554,783 and the eighth-largest Sunday paper with circulation totals of 737,580, according to the September 30, 2004 report from the Audit Bureau of Circulations. The newspaper's online service, HoustonChronicle.com receives over 1 million page views, on average, every day.
HarvestINFO serves more than 400 newspapers worldwide, representing more than 50 publishers.
