How AI can supercharge your media sales proposals

From market research to visual mockups, AI tools help media sellers craft faster, sharper and more persuasive pitches

In today’s competitive advertising environment, the difference between winning and losing a deal often comes down to the quality of your proposal and the persuasiveness of your presentation. As a media sales professional, you’ve likely seen AI headlines everywhere, but have you tapped into its power to transform your sales process?

AI isn’t here to replace your expertise; it’s here to make you sharper, faster and more effective. It helps me put more thought into more proposals, which has helped me increase my closing ratios and revenue. By using AI strategically, you can elevate every step of proposal creation and presentation delivery. Here's how:

Rapid, tailored market research

Gone are the days of spending hours pulling together competitive data or industry trends, yet if you have no personalization or understanding of your prospect’s industry, it can be off-putting and erodes trust and rapport. AI tools can synthesize insights in minutes, letting you focus on selling.

Use case: Before meeting a local restaurant owner, ask AI to summarize recent dining trends in your region and identify how small restaurants are successfully using social media ads.

Prompt: “Summarize the top 5 digital marketing trends for independent restaurants in [your city] in 2025, including examples of local businesses using them effectively."

Audience persona development

AI can help you craft vivid, data-backed buyer personas that bring your client’s ideal customer to life, which makes your proposals far more compelling.

Use case: For a boutique clothing store client, AI can create a persona like “Sophia, 34, professional, fashion-conscious, active on Instagram” with details on buying motivations and preferred ad channels.

Prompt: “Create a detailed buyer persona for a woman in her 30s who shops at high-end local boutiques in [city]. Include demographics, psychographics, preferred social platforms and key purchase motivators.”

Smarter proposal writing

Your team can feed AI the bullet points of a campaign and have it generate a polished, persuasive narrative that’s client-specific — not cookie-cutter.

Use case: Turn a list of ad placements, impressions and targeting specs into a client-friendly story about how those tactics will help them reach their goals.

Prompt: “Turn these bullet points into a persuasive, plain-language proposal section explaining how this campaign will drive results for the client: [paste bullet points]. Use the client’s brand voice and focus on outcomes.”

Visual enhancements for presentations

AI-powered design tools can create professional mock-ups of ads, branded content layouts or even custom infographics showing projected ROI — helping clients see the value before they buy.

Use case: Show a retail client exactly how their Facebook carousel ads will look, featuring their logo, colors and product images, before you’ve even built the campaign.

Prompt: “Create a professional presentation slide showing a mock-up of a Facebook carousel ad for [business name] featuring [product type], using their brand colors and logo.”

Anticipating and addressing objections

AI can simulate Q&A sessions, helping your team prepare for tough questions before they get in front of the client.

Use case: Before pitching a higher-budget multi-platform campaign, have AI generate likely client objections and concise, persuasive responses.

Prompt: “List the top 5 objections a small business owner might raise to a $3,000/month multi-platform ad campaign and provide concise, persuasive responses to each.”

The sales leader’s role

As with any technology, the advantage comes from how you use it. Sales leaders should:

  • Encourage teams to experiment with AI prompts and share successes.
  • Establish ethical guidelines for transparency and originality.
  • Train staff on editing AI output so it’s accurate, brand-aligned and client-ready.

AI won't close the deal for you, but it will help you walk into the room more prepared, with sharper insights, better visuals and stronger stories. I appreciate my ability to do more for more prospects in less time. And in a marketplace where attention is short and competition is fierce, that preparation is the edge you need.

Next month, we’ll cover the AI prompt playbook for media sales success. If you’ve got questions in that area, drop me a line on social media. I’d love to hear from you!

Recommended book of the month: Each month, I’ll share one of my go-to resources for mastering your craft in sales. This month, I want to share a fascinating book: “Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People” by Vanessa Van Edwards. Vanessa is a human behavior hacker, and you’ll learn tips here about how your body language, words, questions you ask and even how you hold your hands when you’re talking can change how people perceive you and respond to you, and how to build trust and rapport. I have taken lessons from this and even seen higher view rates in my videos. Crazy cool!
