'Automation' has taken on darker connotations lately, with retailers bracing for the effects of Amazon Go and warnings of job losses related to sophisticated machine learning abound. While those are legitimate concerns for those in positions that are just as easily performed by a machine, automation in the workplace is largely just a means of increasing productivity and efficiency of the existing workforce.
