Hoy Cuts Staff by 20%

By: E&P Staff Faced with circulation shortfalls, the Spanish-language daily Hoy plans a 20% reduction in its workforce across all departments in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, according to Newsday.

"Over the past several months Hoy has reviewed all aspects of its operations and taken steps to position the newspaper for the future," said Digby Solomon Diez, interim publisher of Hoy, in a statement. "Today's internal announcement that the newspaper will be eliminating positions is part of Hoy's effort to ensure long-term success-both journalistically and as a business."

In September, the Tribune Co. announced further reductions in circulation at Hoy. The paper now claims roughly 50,000 copies for its daily circ.
