Humphrey Named Interim CEO at Detroit Newspapers

By: E&P Staff William (Ed) Humphrey has been named interim president and CEO of Detroit Newspapers, Inc., the joint-operating agency that runs the business operations of the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News, the Free Press reported this afternoon.

He succeeds Frank Vega, who left in December to become president and publisher of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Humphrey has joined the Gannett Co. Inc. newspaper division staff in 1990, serving as vice president/circulation. He came to Detroit Newspapers in 1999.

Humphrey will remain senior vice president/circulation of Detroit Newspapers.

Humphrey is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. He and his wife, Karen, have four children.

Detroit Newspapers handles the business, marketing, and manufacturing operations for News, owned by Gannett, and the Free Press, owned by Knight Ridder.
