By: E&P Staff One of the largest media groups in southern China will install a Goss Magnum 8 press this summer at a new plant. Hunan Daily Group ordered the 12-unit press at China Print, Beijing, in May.
Printing at up to 75,000 copies per hour, the shaftless press will consist of three four-high towers, a Goss Universal 2:3:3 jaw folder with upper former and three automatic splicers. Automation features include infeed, outfeed and remote ink, dampening and register controls.
Since 1998, the Hunan Daily Group has ordered 60 Goss Community SSC, Magnum and Urbanite singlewide press units from Shanghai Goss Graphic Systems, the joint-venture of Goss International and Shanghai Printing and Packaging Machinery.
"We look forward to starting the new press to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Hunan Daily," Deputy General Manager Liu Shulin said in a statement. "Its new automation features will bring us lower waste and competitive color printing quality."
The Hunan Daily Group publishes five newspapers. Its namesake flagship is the province's largest daily, circulating 256,000 copies. The Group also publishes Sanxiang City Express, Family Guide, Science and Education News, Wencui Bao and People's Health, each with growing circulation. The Group also contract prints and distributes 80 other newspapers and has a comprehensive Web portal, Voice of China, publishing electronic versions of all its printed titles.
