Hurst Autopaster Orders and Installations

Posted
By: E&P Staff Atlanta-based Autopaster manufacturer New Hurst Corp. received an order from The Telegram & Gazette, Worcester, Mass., for seven model 5000 autopasters, which the New York Times Co. daily will use with its new Tensor press, slated to be operating in late-November.

Other orders to be installed within the next five months came from Belarussian Publishing House Minsk, (six autopasters to ship in December for a press expansion, bringing its number of Hurst autopasters to 11), Al Ayam, based in Manama, Bahrain (14 model 5000s for a multiple-tower singlewide press in February, with most to be installed at right angles to the press line), Manila's Pilipino Star (adding three Hurst autopasters to the 27 now in use -- the most Hurst autopasters in one plant), and Precision Colour Printing, based in Telford, England, (adding two autopasters to a Goss Universal 45).

Installations were recently completed at Lee Enterprises' La Crosse (Wis.) Tribune (5 model 5000 autopasters for a Goss Urbanite), Dix Newspapers' Record-Courier, Ravenna, Ohio (five model 5000s in line with a Goss Urbanite), and Harstad (Norway) Tidende (another autopaster to an existing nine).

Model 5000 autopasters operate by "moving the web to the roll to make the splice," rather than the traditional method of moving the roll to the web, according to Hurst, which maintains engineering and manufacturing operations in Troy, Mich. Available in three speeds, the model 5000 is field upgradable to the next higher speed.
