By: E&P Staff Guardian News & Media, publisher of the British dailies The Guardian and The Observer, will use a paperless proofing solution developed by New York-based Integrated Color Solutions. The contract was signed with ICS partner Targetcolour, Surrey, England.

The papers will use ICS Remote Director to allow viewers such as agencies, prepress shops and printers at different locations to share electronic proofs. According to ICS, Remote Director is the first proofing solution to be SWOP Certified, meaning that it guarantees its proofs match the Certified Press Proofs used in publication production or current proofing systems.

"Remote Director supports RGB, CMYK, and CMYK+ spot color workflows with open and dynamic use of ICC profiles for specific presses and papers, allowing anyone to see how the job will print before going to press," ICS explained in a statement.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
