'Idaho Press-Tribune' To Launch Spanish-Language Paper

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Idaho Press-Tribune in Nampa will launch a 10,000-copy free-distribution weekly Spanish-language paper on Oct. 6.

La Prensa Libre will be distributed Fridays at grocery stores, restaurants and other high-traffic areas, the Press-Tribune said in an article by David Woolsey.

"The time is right for such a publication; the market is growing and vibrant, businesses want to reach this important demographic and we have the resources to devote to an independent publication," Press-Tribune Publisher Stephanie Pressly said.

According to the Press-Tribune, the number of Hispanics in its Canyon County market increased by 106% from 1990 to 2000.

La Prensa Libre will have its own staff, including a general manager, reporter, sales people and a copy editor who is also a designer.

"The Hispanic community has told us that local news and advertising is what's important to them," Pressly said in the announcement. "We think that will be the cornerstone of this paper's unique content and its ultimate success. There's nothing else like it in the valley."
