Pocatello, Idaho-- Andy Pennington has been named publisher of the Idaho State Journal.
Pennington recently served as general manager of the Hometown News Group in Wisconsin, where he managed 10 weekly newspapers and three shoppers. His new position reunites him with Pioneer Newspapers where he worked as an advertising director for the Klamath Falls Herald and News in Oregon about 10 years ago.
Pennington’s newspaper career started by selling advertising for a shopper in Ashland, Wisc. His father, Gary Pennington, had been a publisher for newspapers in Wisconsin.
After a year in Ashland, Pennington decided he wanted to return closer to his old college town in the panhandle of Nebraska and ended up selling advertising for the Daily Times-Call in Longmont, Colo., a newspaper where Pioneer Newspapers current CEO Mike Gugliotto was publisher.
Three years later, an opportunity to work with his father brought him back to the Midwest where he became the advertising manager for the Hibbing (Minn.) Daily Tribune. After three years in Hibbing, he moved to Klamath Falls at the urging of Gugliotto to work for the Klamath Falls Herald and News as advertising director.
When an opportunity to become the publisher of the Hayward newspaper, a position his father had held three years earlier, Pennington took it. After four years, he moved on to manage 10 weekly newspapers and three shoppers for the publishing group out of Fort Atkinson, Wisc., a position he held until become publisher of the Idaho State Journal.
