Ifra Names Industry Veteran Jacob to Manage Asia/Pacific Region

By: E&P Staff Thomas Jacob has joined Ifra as deputy CEO and managing director of the Greater Asia/Pacific Region. Born in India, Jacob is now based in Singapore.

Announcing Jacob's appointment, Ifra CEO Reiner Mittelbach said the the news publishing industry's international research and service organization plans to "significantly expand" its services in the region.

An electronics and computer networking engineer, Jacob receivedhis MBA summa cum laude from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

Jacob has been active in Asian media for more than 24 years. Before joining Ifra, he worked for Associated Newspapers Ltd., publisher of Britain's Daily Mail and Metro. As international development director, he conceptualized a compact mid-market newspaper for India and initiated a joint venture with India Today Group to launch Mail Today.

Jacob is not new to the Ifra. Before joining ANL, he established Ifra's presence in Asia where he set up subsidiaries Ifra Asia and Ifra India. He started the Chinese edition of Ifra's former newspaper techniques, brought out the Asian Newspaper Directory and launched the Publish Asia Conference Expo and the Asian Media Awards during his previous tenure with Ifra.

Jacob started his career as an engineer in 1984 with Mathrubhumi, a leading newspaper in Kerala, India, and led its technical operations before moving to Singapore in 1992 to join AMIC, a mass-communication research center. At AMIC, Jacob started the Press Development Programme for Asia.
