IFRA Readies Fourth XMA Cross Media Awards

Posted
By: E&P Staff The IFRA XMA Cross Media Awards 2009 will honor publishers with a "challenging and outstanding design" that communicates a brand in a "clear, distinct way and through different channels."

Media companies can register through March 1 at www.ifra.com/xma (where conditions of participation can be viewed). Entries must be submitted by May.

A jury of international newspaper and media experts will evaluate entries, submissions of which cost 150 euros for IFRA members and 250 euros for non-members.

Prizes will be awarded to newspapers in circulation categories of less than 100,000 copies, 100,000 to 250,000 copies, and more than 250,000 copies.

Winners will be announced Oct. 12-15 at IFRA Expo 2009 in Vienna and presented at a XMA special showing. A short list of the best projects will be presented before at the SND Conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Sept. 24-26.

The 2009 competition is sponsored by Adobe Systems and supported by Protec.

"The media world has changed dramatically. More content in more formats, distributed on more platforms and on more channels, lends itself to exposing audiences to an overwhelming jungle of different brands," Dietmar Schantin, one of IFRA's XMA project leaders, said in a statement. "Brand recognition of media houses becomes crucially important in order to distinguish one's own brand and what it stands for."

For the first time, the awards are co-produced with the Society for News Design. The aim of the fourth XMA Cross Media Awards is to present the best examples of design in newspapers that combine different print and digital channels to get their brand across.
