By: E&P Staff IFRA Search, the search engine for the news publishing industry, officially went on line Thursday. At www.ifrasearch.com, IFRA introduces what it calls "the first professional research tool for specialized searching," allowing users to find all information relevant to the news publishing industry drawn from IFRA's own, partners' and other high-quality sources.
Two years in development, IFRA Search's vertical orientation ensures that results from IFRA Search offer quality instead of quantity. Headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany, IFRA is the newspaper industry's worldwide research and service organization.
"Even if access to the material is [password protected], its inclusion in IFRA Search contributes to heightening general awareness of the wealth of research projects, studies, publications and reports that exists on topics that are of decisive interest for the industry," IFRA CEO Reiner Mittelbach said in a statement.
An open service for the news publishing industry, IFRA Search is universally available on the Internet and embeddable in any Web site or intranet using simple HTML or JavaScript coding, according to IFRA Search Development Manager Amrei Wiederin. All necessary information about this is found at www.ifra.com/ifrasearch.
The IFRA search engine offers newspaper-related results in three research areas: "IFRA & Partners" permits access to IFRA's own databases and those of its partners; "Web" contains information from manufacturers and other sources; "News" is based mainly on up-to-the-minute sources (RSS feeds and Web sites).
Search queries correspond to those of regular search engines, with indication of the language area, search with operands, etc. Results may be refined using source filters in the search areas. Behind each displayed document there is a link that opens a pop-up window with a summary of the document.
IFRA experts constantly monitor the search engine's quality level, and evaluate potential sources.
IFRA Search partners listed on the right margin of the results page are organizations or companies with especially important database stocks and with which specific agreements to support this initiative. The German Newspaper Publishers' Association (BDZV) is the first IFRA Search partner.
Sponsorship of IFRA Search offers an opportunity to attract a specialized audience. Those wishing to become sponsors or with questions or suggestions about IFRA Search may send e-mails to ifrasearch@ifra.com.
