'IHT' Partners With OhMyNews to Use Work From 'Citizen Journalists'

By: E&P Staff The New York Times Co.-owned International Herald Tribune has struck a deal with South Korea-based OhMyNews International to run articles written by members of the public alongside those by established writers, according to published reports.

OhMyNews, which has been referred to as a news equivalent of Wikipedia, boasts 40,000 news contributors from around the world. The news organizations also has 50 in-house writers who contribute stories and vet contributed material to decide what is worthy of publication. OhMyNews Contributors are paid small amounts, depending on the popularity and promenence of their article. The company reportedly is planning to have approximately 100,000 correspondents in its network by 2010.

"This endorsement means a lot to us, and we are now driving to have similar links with other news organisations," Hong Eun-Taek, editor in chief of OhmyNews International was quoted as saying in the Guardian newspaper. "We are growing fast, the pace is quickening and we are publishing more stories. I think we can match expectations."
