By: E&P Staff The State Journal-Register in Springfield, Ill., has offered a voluntary severance program to nearly 150 employees, the company announced Monday. It did not reveal its target for acceptances.
?This voluntary severance program is being offered at the same time we are doing our budgeting for 2008 to give us plenty of options in how we meet our numbers,? said Publisher Sue Schmitt in an article in the paper today. ?We have also put some limits into the program to ensure business continuity, so it is clear we are not trying to force a large turnover.?
The newspaper also is negotiating with its collective bargaining units to make the same offer to 47 union employees.
The newspaper has a work force of 345, including part-time employees.
