By: Media photographers are getting help from state lawmakers in their ongoing dispute over how they can use photos from high school sports events.
The Senate voted 47 to 5 today to require the Illinois High School Association to let media resell photos they take at IHSA games, such as state tournaments in basketball and football.
The high school association has barred photographers from some newspapers from the sidelines because those newspapers sold their pictures online.
Legislators pushing the measure say it's about standing up for media rights and parental access to action photos of their children.
Critics say it will cost high schools money they've paid to a private firm to take such photos.
The measure now heads to the House.
