In January, NYTimes.com Makes it Back to Top 5

Posted
By: Jennifer Saba Welcome back, NYTimes.com. The newspaper Web site climbed to the No. 5 position on list of the top 10 current events sites in January after falling two slots in December, according to data provided by Nielsen Online.

CNN Digital Network overtook Yahoo News in January as the No. 1 site with the most unique visitors at 40.6 million.

Most of the Web sites on the list -- 70% -- had declines in unique users year-over-year most likely because of news cycles such as the January 2009 Presidential inauguration.

Google News, though, increased its unique users compared to the same period last year, jumping 16.1% to 16.2 million.

Please note that Nielsen greatly expanded its panels in June 2009, which could also affect year-over-year trends.

Below are the top 10 current events & global news destinations ranked by January uniques with year-over-year comparisons.
