'Indy Star' Names Pam Fine Managing Editor

By: (AP) Pam Fine, former vice president and managing editor of the Star Tribune of Minneapolis, has been named new managing editor of the Indianapolis Star.

From 1994 until 2002, Fine supervised all newsroom operations at the Star Tribune, which has a daily circulation of 343,000. She is scheduled to assume similar duties Oct. 7 at the Star, which has a daily circulation of 255,000, according to 2002 figures compiled by Editor & Publisher magazine.

"I'm very excited about working at the Star, which is the biggest and most important news organization in Indiana," Fine said.

In 2000, Fine, 46, served as national conference chairwoman of the Associated Press Managing Editors Association. She also has served as a juror for the Pulitzer Prize.

Fine becomes the third managing editor hired in three years at the Star, which is owned by Gannett Co. Inc. Richard Luna resigned last month after a year on the job.
