By: E&P Staff Doing its part in Gannett Co.'s company-wide layoff of 600, The Indianapolis Star announced Friday it is laying off 23 employees.
Star President and Publisher Michael G. Kane announced the cuts in an e-mail to employees. The cuts will come from throughout the newspaper, but Kane did not specify how many employees will be fired from which departments.
Affected employees will get severance and medical insurance based on their years with the paper, Kane said.
"Unfortunately, in the short term we will be saying goodbye to some employees who have contributed to our success and that will be difficult," Kane said. "The goal, however, is to strengthen our company for the future, and to get through this economic downturn in a way that positions us to grow."
