IN&M Newry, Belfast Plants Add Big Titles

By: E&P Staff A print deal worth 40 million British pounds "will make Northern Ireland one of the biggest producers of daily newspapers in Europe," according to a report in today's Belfast Telegraph.

Independent News and Media has contracted to print for two of the United Kingdom's biggest newspaper publishers, both based in London. IN&M's Newry plant -- one of the first to run a Goss FPS press -- will print all Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph sections for 15 years. Its Belfast Telegraph plant's Goss Colorliners it will print the Daily Mirror for seven years. IN&M has invested more than 50 million pounds in the two plants in recent years.

The papers will be printed in full color.

The contracts hand to INM the printing of all Mirror titles, Telegraph titles, the Sun, News of the World, Daily and Sunday Express, Daily Star, Irish Star, Sunday World, Sunday Tribune and the Independent (London), as well as several magazines for the Independent.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, the Belfast and Newry plants will now produce 200 million copies of 35 titles on 50,000 metric tons of newsprint annually.
