INM to Expand Goss FPS Press Next Year

Posted
By: E&P Staff Independent News & Media Chief Executive Anthony O'Reilly announced plans earlier this month to invest 10 million euros to expand the group's printing plant in Newry, Northern Ireland.

At a U.S.-Northern Ireland investment conference, O'Reilly said the expansion would enable production of 120-page glossy magazines in one pass, according to an account in The Irish Times. The plan calls for adding two towers -- one for coldset and another for heatset -- to the press that already prints daily newspapers.

The 60,000 square-foot plant opened last April with one of the first Goss FPS presses, consisting of three coldset towers, two heatset towers. Goss International has yet to announce a contract for expansion of the compact and flexible web-offset press.

Confirming that INM indicated its intention to add more towers next year to its existing FPS press, a Goss spokesman said from the Drupa show in Duesseldorf, Germany, that his company views the extension "as a strong testament to the performance of the existing press."
