New reporting from InvestigateWest and RANGE reveals the staff concerns behind Rob Curley’s previously announced suspension from The Spokesman-Review — and raises questions about the newspaper’s planned nonprofit transition.
Drawing on interviews with more than a dozen current and former employees and contemporaneous records, the investigation details allegations of editorial interference and retaliation, along with staff accounts that management disclosed none of the paper’s reporting positions were currently community funded despite public claims otherwise. Curley declined to comment; his attorney disputed the allegations, saying, “It’s all inaccurate.”
