By: North Star Publishing and The Daily Journal of International Falls have named a new publisher.

Rob Davenport began his duties Monday, taking over from Wayne Kasich, who had been publisher for 12 years. Kasich will remain on staff to help with commercial printing sales.

Kasich says he's chosen not to retire fully and said he's glad the company offered him the opportunity to keep working.

Davenport began work in media sales and management with the Sentinel-Tribune in Bowling Green, Ohio. He had been general manager of North Star Publishing and The Daily Journal.

Kasich started working in sales at The Daily Journal in 1977. He was named publisher of the company's newspaper in Hutchinson in 1981 and returned to oversee The Daily Journal and North Star Publishing in 1996.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
