Turner, 83, who began "Wee Pals" in 1965, was a pioneer in creating a multiethnic cast of comic-strip characters. His feature is now distributed by Creators Syndicate.
The documentary
film is called "Keeping the Faith With Morrie." It also includes information about other cartoonists of color -- including "The Boondocks" creator Aaron McGruder "Angry Little Girls" creator Lela Lee, late "Krazy Kat" creator George Herriman, and late editorial cartoonist Oliver Harrington.
Among those on the film's "honorary board of supporters" are Lucy Shelton Caswell of the Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library in Columbus, Ohio; Jean Schulz of the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, Calif; and Malcolm Whyte of the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco.
