By: Joe Strupp The Telegraph Herald of Dubuque, Iowa, has partnered with a local NBC television affiliate to share news coverage and cross-promotion.
The Woodward Communications-owned daily announced the partnership with KWWL-TV of Waterloo, Iowa, adding that "the newspaper and television station will cooperate in planning and reporting Dubuque and regional news and in presenting special reports on issues of importance to tri-state readers and viewers.
"The partnership is expected to highlight the strengths of their respective mediums ? for KWWL, immediacy and video, and for the Telegraph Herald, depth and detail. Each organization remains responsible for its own news decisions and content."
The two entities are already planning "a special series for publication and broadcast later this month," an announcement stated.
KWWL?s two-person Dubuque news bureau has already relocated to leased quarters in the Telegraph Herald Editorial Department, the paper revealed. KWWL has been providing forecasts and weather data for the Telegraph Herald?s weather report each day.
?This is a landmark deal for both KWWL and the Telegraph Herald. We greatly respect and admire the efforts of the TH to bring news and weather to the tri-states. This partnership brings two brand names synonymous with top-notch news and weather coverage together,? Kimberly Leer, station manager of KWWL, which is owned by Illinois-based Quincy Newspapers, Inc., said in a statement.
Jim Normandin, Telegraph Herald publisher and vice president-newspapers for Woodward Communications, Inc., stated: ?We are equally enthusiastic about this partnership. KWWL is a trusted name throughout the Greater Dubuque region when it comes to breaking news and comprehensive weather coverage. Partnering with KWWL complements the daily Telegraph Herald as well as our many print publications and online products. But clearly, the real winners in this partnership are our loyal readers and viewers.?
The new partnership will not impact the employee levels at either news outlet, the paper said.
