By: Investigative Reporters and Editors Inc. of Columbia, Mo., announced the winners of the 2001 IRE Awards Friday. The awards honor outstanding investigative work and efforts to promote freedom of information.
The Washington Post won an IRE medal for exploring the deaths of children in the District of Columbia.
Among the IRE certificate winners are the
Chicago Tribune; the
Pocono Record of Stroudsburg, Pa.; the
Yakima (Wash.)
Herald-Republic; and the
Dayton (Ohio)
Daily News.
The awards will be presented June 1 at the IRE Annual Conference in San Francisco.
