'Irish Times' Works Towards Integrated 24-Hour Newsroom

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Irish Times and Ireland.com will integrate their newsrooms, attempting to become the country?s first 24-hour newspaper.

The online and print staff joined under the same employer two weeks ago, but the online journalists reportedly will now move into the main newsroom and join across all the editorial departments.

The Times is modeling its plans after The Guardian, where reporters submit stories for both the print and online publications. The changes will also likely result in adjustments to the working shifts as a move to a 24-hour news cycle will require staff to work night shifts.

There are no job cuts expected so far, but differences in pay for print and online journalists could result in friction. Print staffers tend to have better wages, but the paper?s new organization will change this.
