By: (AP) The owner of Israel's second largest newspaper, Maariv, was sentenced Sunday to five months' community service and fined $20,700 for obstructing justice and intimidating witnesses in the wiretapping trial of his son, a court spokesman said.

The Tel Aviv Magistrates Court also ordered Yaacov Nimrodi to give up his chairmanship of the board of Maariv and its holding company, Haksharat Hayishuv, the spokesman said.

Nimrodi was convicted last month for harassing two prosecution witnesses in his son Ofer's trial, but was acquitted of intimidating a third witness. Nimrodi also paid another defendant in the case, Arieh Krishnev, money to harass witnesses, the court ruled.

Israeli army radio said Krishnev was also sentenced Sunday to five months of community service and fined $4,150.
