The last two weeks brought new rounds of horror in America, as two mass shootings—one in Atlanta, and one in Boulder—claimed the lives of 18 people.

Some media outlets portrayed the carnage as a departure from a gun-violence calm brought about by the covid lockdown. In fact, 2020 was the deadliest year for gun violence in two decades...

    This invitation to "rethink" how we cover guns and mass shootings begins with two flawed premises:

    -- That mass shootings are a "unique American tragedy." This is ridiculously easy to disprove with a simple internet search -- both the number of shootings and the rate of deaths.

    -- That it "continues unabated." Has the author taken time to research the number of crimes stopped by armed citizens?

    I'm interested to hear why I should not interpret this brief article as anti-Second Amendment. It appears the author simply sees the negatives and is possibly wilfully blind to the positives.

    Your invitation will not likely draw many objective journalists nor pro-gun advocates, and I doubt your group's conclusions will produce fair and objective standards.
