By: E&P Staff Old-time journalists may have been surprised, and pleased, to learn this week that the new graduate journalism program at the City University of New York will be based at the former headquarters of the fabled New York Herald Tribune.
The j-school will open in 2006. The Herald Tribune, which closed in 1966, was based at 230 W. 41st St. in midtown Manhattan.
According to The New York Times (which is still housed nearby), the school will take over the third floor of the building, where the typesetting was done for the old paper, and five other floors in the 20-story tower.
A dean has not yet been hired.
