Jabari Asim Named Editor of NAACP's 'The Crisis' Magazine

By: E&P Staff Jabari Asim has been named editor of the NAACP's "The Crisis" magazine effective Aug. 20.

Asim formerly wrote a column syndicated by the Washington Post Writers Group and served as deputy editor of The Washington Post's "Book World" section.

He's also the author of children's books and the recently published "The N Word: Who Can Say It, Who Shouldn't, and Why" (Houghton Mifflin).

"Mr. Asim is a seasoned editor and fine writer," said "The Crisis" Publisher Roger Wilkins in a statement. "He is a gentleman devoted to the cause of
racial justice."

Asim, 45, added in a statement: "'The Crisis' will encourage its readers to recognize that there is no time less like the present to work together to overcome injustice and create a fair and equitable society for all
Americans."

"The Crisis" was originally published starting in 1910 by NAACP co-founder W.E.B. Du Bois.

Before coming to The Washington Post, Asim worked as book editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
