By: Joe Strupp The recent executive reshuffling at Dow Jones & Co. in the wake of its takeover by News Corp. continued Monday with the announcement of a new general counsel, Mark H. Jackson of HarperCollins, also a News Corp. property.
In a release, Dow Jones announced that Jackson would become executive vice president/general counsel of Dow Jones, replacing Joseph A. Stern, who recently announced his departure.
?I?m delighted that Mark will join Dow Jones," Chief Executive Officer Les Hinton said in a statement. "He has made outstanding contributions to HarperCollins and I know that his considerable experience with all facets of the media industry, combined with his superlative legal acumen, will be valuable assets to Dow Jones.?
Jackson's appointment comes just days after the News Corp. takeover of Dow Jones was finalized by shareholders, and in the wake of announcements that Dow Jones CEO Richard Zannino and Wall Street Journal Publisher Gordon Crovitz had stepped down.
"As someone who has spent his legal career working with media companies, I am excited to be joining one of the most distinguished," Jackson said in a release. "Dow Jones has a strong legal team and I look forward to working with them during the company?s next phase of growth.?
Jackson joined HarperCollins in January 2003. Prior to that, he was a partner at Squadron, Ellenoff, Plesent & Sheinfeld specializing in media issues. Jackson is a graduate of Cornell University and Cornell Law School.
