Jailing Journalists Over Phone Hacking Will Damage Britain's Image Abroad, Says John Whittingdale

In speech to a Council of Europe conference on media regulation in the House of Commons, Mr Whittingdale suggested that senior executives from News International such as Rebekah Brooks will go to prison if convicted over the affair.

Currently between 30 and 40 journalists are awaiting trial various aspects of the phone hacking affair, with trials due to start this Autumn.
