By: Greg Mitchell Jay DeFoore, currently news editor at Photo District News, has been named Online Editor at E&P, and will assume his new duties on July 5.
As a reporter and news editor for three years at PDN -- like E&P, owned by VNU -- DeFoore has covered newspapers, photojournalism, magazines, and advertising, among other subjects. He has posted much of the news content at pdnonline.com, and contributed to the publication's blog aimed at college students.
He replaces Jesse Oxfeld, who has moved on to Gawker.
DeFoore started at VNU more than five years ago in the eMedia department. He worked as a Web producer and later as an information architect, where he helped bring various publications onto one technology platform. He also syndicated content for Billboard, E&P, and Adweek, and oversaw the redesigns of more than 10 Web sites. In his free time, he wrote music and concert reviews for Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter.
His first newspaper experience was as an intern at his hometown Waxahachie (Texas) Daily Light and later the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman. At the University of Texas he worked on the student newspaper, The Daily Texan, first as a reporter and later as entertainment editor.
