Jazbox Goes into Schenectady Newsroom

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Daily Gazette, Schenectady, N.Y., will install a Jazbox editorial system from Harris & Baseview, a division of Mediaspan, with offices in Melbourne, Fla., and Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Daily Gazette newsroom will upgrade from its Harris Newsmaker system on 97 workstations.

The Jazbox content-management system for publishing to print, Web, and wireless devices has a database-centered structure and conforms to an individual paper's workflow needs, streamlining them while permitting workflow modification in the midst of the production cycle. Its new OnePlan feature helps plan and budget before stories are created.

Harris & Baseview also reported more than two dozen sites went live with its software this month.

Among them, The StarPhoenix, a 65,000-circulation CanWest daily in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, runs 41 NewsEditPro IQue workstations and 13 pagination stations, with the DragIn and CopyTools plug-ins for Adobe InDesign. It also uses Transporter, various other plug-ins, and IQueWeb for remote workstations.

Other newsrooms going live included those at Pioneer Group, Big Rapids, Mich., L'Acadie Nouvelle, Caraquet, New Brunswick, Muncie (Ind.) Star-Press, Suffolk Life Newspapers, Riverhead, N.Y., Santa Cruz (Calif.) Sentinel, and Watertown (Wis.) Daily Times.

Running on new advertising software are: The Eagle, Bryan-College Station, Texas; The Galveston County (Texas) Daily News; Grants Pass, Ore., Daily Courier; Osprey Media Group, Ontario, Canada; Eastern Arizona Courier, Safford; Sidney (Mont.) Herald; Stuart (Fla.) News; The Messenger, Union City, Tenn.; Carroll Publishing, Catholic Standard/El Pregonero, Washington, D.C.; and Williston (N.D.) Daily Herald.

Circulation software is in operation at the Chesterton (Ind.) Tribune; The Herald-Sun, Durham, N.C.; Vineyard Gazette, Edgartown, Mass.; Kodiak (Alaska) Daily Mirror; Mirror Newspapers, Royal Oak, Mich.; Shelton-Mason County (Wash.) Journal; Daily Sun, The Villages, Fla.; and Wakefield (Mass.) Daily Item.

Durham's Herald-Sun and the High Point Enterprise, also in North Carolina, are running Harris & Baseview production software.
