By: E&P Staff Mobile (Ala.) Register editorial cartoonist J.D. Crowe and his newspaper have compiled a book of Crowe's Hurricane Katrina-related cartoons.
"2005 Hurricane Season" will soon be available at the Register and on the cartoonist's Web site (
CroweToons.com). All profits from the collection will be donated to The Salvation Army's Neediest Families Campaign.
Crowe -- whose cartoons are syndicated by Artizans.com -- wrote on the book's back cover: "As the editorial cartoonist for the Mobile Register, I have been uniquely situated for some prime hunkering the past two hurricane seasons. I was hunkered like a groundhog for Katrina. And when I came out of my hole I saw anguish, devastation, and at least six more weeks of hurricane cartoons.
"Not a lot of knee-slappers here, especially in the aftermath of Katrina. These images reek of horror, sadness, and anger... . They are presented here as one artist's documentary of this historically tragic year in hopes that somebody, somehow, may get some use out of them."
