By: E&P Staff Jerry Robinson will be the keynote speaker this Saturday at the Harvey Awards, which take place during the Baltimore Comic-Con.
Robinson is founder of the Cartoonists & Writers Syndicate, a cartoonist, a comics historian, a former "Batman" comic book artist (who created the Joker and named Robin), and a past president of the National Cartoonists Society and the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists.
Many of the Harvey prizes honor comic book work, but there is a category for best syndicated strip or panel. Nominees include "Mutts" by Patrick McDonnell of King Features Syndicate, "The Amazing Spider-Man" by Stan Lee and Larry Lieber of King, the on-hiatus "Boondocks" by Aaron McGruder of Universal Press Syndicate, "The K Chronicles" by the self-syndicated Keith Knight, and "Maakies" by the self-syndicated Tony Millionaire.
News about Robinson's appearance was mentioned today on Tom Spurgeon's ComicsReporter.com blog.
