By: E&P Staff Jane R. Eisner, former editorial page editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer, has been nominated to become editor of Jewish newsweekly The Forward.
The Forward Association, the group that oversees the newspaper, is expected to make the appointment official during a meeting on Sunday.
Eisner worked for The Philadelphia Inquirer between 1980 and 2005, serving first as a reporter and later editorial page editor and syndicated columnist.
The Forward has been published in Yiddish for more than a century. The English-language version was started in 1990 by Seth Lipsky, a former editor at The Wall Street Journal.
If appointed, Eisner would become the first woman to edit either edition.
