By: Dave Astor Joel Pett will give a talk called "Who's Killing the Editorial Cartoon?" on March 18 in New York City.
His presentation will be immediately followed by a panel of prominent editorial cartoonists discussing the state of their profession.
The two sessions are part of the March 16-18 College Media Advisers Convention at Manhattan's Marriot Marquis hotel, where Valerie PlameWilson will speak as well.
Pett -- the 2000 Pulitzer Prize winner with the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader and Cartoonists & Writers Syndicate/New York Times Syndicate (CWS/NYTS) -- will also do "live drawing" of presidents and presidential candidates during his noon talk.
The ensuing discussion will start at 1 p.m. Panelists will include Pett, Jeff Danziger (CWS/NYTS), Matt Davies (The Journal News, White Plains, N.Y./Tribune Media Services, Ted Rall (Universal Press Syndicate), Mikhaela Reid (self-syndicated), and Signe Wilkinson (Philadelphia Daily News/Washington Post Writers Group).
Valerie Plame Wilson is scheduled to speak on March 16. She was outed as a CIA operative in 2003 when Bush-administration officials leaked her name to Chicago Sun-Times/Creators Syndicate columnist Robert Novak. This was after Plame Wilson's husband wrote a New York Times op-ed piece questioning the administration's Iraq War policies.
